He received it from Luis Suárez, who defined him as “the essence of football”
Leo Messi now has two Golden Boot trophies, the second collected today after scoring an astonishing 50 goals in La Liga 2011/12. But the Argentinian knows he could never have won it alone. “This is a group prize” he insisted. “I always say that when an individual wins something like this. That’s a fact, and this one more than any. It is a prize for scoring goals, but I’d never have done it without my team-mates”.
Asked which goals meant the most to him, Messi replied “the most important ones: the ones in the Supercup, the Clubs World Cup, and the Copa del Rey”, because they all meant wins at the end of a competition.
Luis Suárez: “He’s changed history”
The venue was the Old Damm Factory in Barcelona, and the ceremony was presented by TV host Olga Viza and attended by several important guests. Messi was joined by president Sandro Rosell, a number of his relatives, a group of FCB directors, coaches including Cairo and Carmona and such sportspeople as Puyol, Xavi, Navarro, Sedano and Juanín.
