Miss Philippines Megan Young was crowned Miss
World in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013. She beat 126
candidates at the end of the three-week contest. She bested 126 beauty queens
from around the world to become the first Filipina to win the most coveted Miss
World title in the 63-year history of the London-based pageant.
Marine Lorphelin, a 20-year-old medical student
from France, took second place, and Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, a
23-year-old from medical student from Ghana came third.
Megan Lynne Young was born in the U.S., but her
family moved to the Philippines when she was 10. She is an American-Filipino
personality and TV host. Young is currently studying Digital Film Making at the
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
On September 14, 2012, she was named one of the
National Peace Ambassadors along with other local personalities, and crowned
Miss Philippines World 2013 last August 18.
Megan Young entered the semifinal round with the
highest score based on preliminary activities. The day before coronation night,
Miss World Organization announced that Young topped the ‘Top Model’ competition
and placed fourth in the ‘Multimedia Challenge, and fifth in the ‘Beach Beauty’
contest.
Those who made it to top six were Brazil’s
Sancler Frantz, who won the ‘Beach Beauty’ competition, Elena Ibarbia of Spain
and Maroua Kharbouch of Gibraltar who amassed the highest number of public
votes.
Young was a favorite in the 2013 Miss World
Philippines, and was as impressive in the Miss World competition where she
opened the media delegation at the press conference with Miss World owner Julia
Morley and Yu Wenxia of China.
